The Clare Climate

Clare and Ireland as an island has a mild, but changeable, climate all year and is not noted for any extreme weather conditions. There is rainfall falls throughout the year, but is light overall. Clare does tend to be wetter than the average and is prone to the full force of Atlantic storms particularly in the late autumn and winter.

These storms occasionally bring destructive winds and high rainfall totals to the county. Snow is rare except on high ground, however hail often occurs in winter. Coastal counties such as Clare tend to be cooler in summer (June- August) and warmer in winter (November - February).

The Irish weather tends to be highly changeable so it is best to be prepared for wind and rain when heading out in to it, even on what seems on first impressions to be a sunny day! Similarly don't be put off if the weather doesn't look good first thing in the morning it can - and often does - change within an hour.
